My work this year im hoping to incorporate a performance, involving myself and the objects that i use. When i received
feedback on my 1st semester of 3rd year, it was said that the work lacked 'me'. It was meant to involve humour and delivery,
but how can a mundane object deliver a punchline? Therefore, i need to deliver it. I have been looking at various performanceartists but more specifically, stand-up comedians because they are the most appropriate for me to take ideas and techniques
from, I made some interesting notes watching documentaries so i thought i would share them here...
The stand-up comic, the light is on them all the time, they're the reason that the audience are there. This is an opportunityfor the comic, to 'sell ideas and thoughts' and immediately get a response and reaction. He/She can say what they want, how
often can we do that now? Without someone having an issue to raise.
Comedians use methods that grow out of their own personality, and those methods could be how they present themselves on
stage, but also their habits and ways of living, they share them and we can engage with something quite open.
The 'joke' aspect stems from many techniques be it one-liners but i find a story normally makes me laugh more and build a
picture like reading a book. The next step, you give observations on the 'story' from different characters involved, and
again this picture, builds and builds into laughter.
Thankyou for reading.
